The Idea
For this project, I collaborated with Laurel. We decided that we wanted to do a project revolved around food. An idea that came to mind was making some sort of cookbook. We had to set some boundaries for what kinds of foods we could include in it though. After talking about it, we came up with the idea to base the foods we combined off of our heritage. Laurel comes from an Asian decent therefore we would include traditional and modern asian cuisine. I come from a Scottish background therefore we would also include Scottish cuisine as well. Another limitation that was set was that the dishes we included had to fit into a pescatarian diet because Laurel is pescatarian.
Pescatarian
What exactly does it mean to be pescatarian? If a person is pescatarian, they basically follow a vegetarian diet with the addition of being able to eat fish and seafoods. Adding this limitation to the cookbook created a new twist for us to work with.
The English Aspect
For the english portion of the project, we compiled all the recipes that we gathered into a cookbook. We then wrote personal notes about the some of the recipes. Below are some examples from the cookbook. I included all of the recipes and recipe notes that we actually cooked.
The Art Aspect
For the art portion, we cooked a three course meal that include foods from each culture. The drink that we made was a bubble tea. For the appetizer, we made egg drop soup and a Scottish bread called aberdeen butteries. The main course of the meal was a smoked fish pie. For dessert, we decided to create a cookie tray that way we could include a couple different desserts. On the cookie tray we included caramel shortbread squares, double ginger cookies, Scottish lace cookies, and tipperary biscuits. Below are some pictures of the meals and some pictures from throughout our day of cooking.
