Art
I created two paintings for my art aspect of my project. My first painting was of the body. Body is a self portrait. During the painting process I used vibrant colors in my hair. With doing that it helped me show my true body. I used to love coloring my hair reds, purples, and pinks it helped me to express myself. When thinking of how I could paint the mind I came to a halt. I didn’t want it to be cliche. With the help of Mr. Wimmer we thought of auras. An aura is the atmosphere that surrounds a person. Auras all have a color, and everyone has an aura. While someone may emit a lush, green aura, another person may have a dim hue of red. I wrote descriptions of auras, and asked people who knew me very well and not so well to circle words that they thought pertained to me. Each word had a color, I used those colors as my “skin” in the Mind painting.

I didn’t quite know what to do for english aspect of my project. I decided to write a detailed artist statement for my paintings. Here is my statement:
These paintings show the connection between mind and body.
The following paintings represent my aim to explore the connections that exist between the mind and the body of the ‘human form’. Inspiration for the Mind painting came mostly from auras. An aura is the color that surrounds an individual, emitted as a reflection of their inner soul. While one individual might emit vibes that can be seen as a lush, green aura, another may offer a dim hue of blue.
The process for Mind painting involved sketching and constant reworking. Figuring out how to convey the mind in a painting without being cliche was tricky. There are all too many examples of this that involve literal, obvious solutions. Eventually, I saturated the colors, using Photoshop, using a print of this as my reference. My painting stemmed from what I saw in this highly saturated color print. Although it is composed of many colors, each color connects to a different facet of my own aura.
The body painting is exactly what it sounds like. The body painting is more realistic than the mind. Body has more flesh tones and true body colors. This painting was created to show you what you see and how the mind and body are completely different, but still connected. Both connected by both being portraits and being myself.

History
I first studied what auras are. Then I read about the connection between both mind and body. Using what I learned about auras I let it help me paint. Because of what I learned about auras it helped me to do my “social experiment” to help me choose my colors for my painting.
