For my first project, I did a literary magazine explaining the events, reasons, and processes of a man named Desmond Doss. He served during WWII and saved up to 75 people. However, he never killed a single enemy, let alone held or shot a gun. It went against his beliefs to hold a weapon or kill another man. He joined the war to save people of their injuries, but it came with the cost of getting made fun of, mocked, and beat up by his own fellow soldiers. They called him names and basically verbally abused him as well. However, he never let this break his beliefs and desires for helping other people.
I created a literary magazine that explained Desmonds beliefs and values and events leading up to him starting in the war. Then I explained what happened during and after the war. The last section of the magazine was to portray how the Desmonds experiences and the war itself was different than the movie it was based off on called "Hacksaw Ridge." There were many small details that were different from the movie to the real war that could change your perspective of how you view Desmond or the battles they went through together.
For the art portion I worked off of a ceramic bust that I made last year and made an abstract view to Desmond himself. I glued newspaper articles about Desmond and his accomplishments. I also created a mold sculpture of the Purple Heart medal that Desmond received and put it on his chest.
