This project began as a movie idea of a depressed kid who is thinking about committing suicide. I had the idea that he would get a phone call from a random person who called the wrong number, and he would have a conversation with this person and like them and not kill himself. I built off of this idea.
English
I wrote the screenplay using Celtx. The process of writing the screenplay was pretty simple. The hardest part was writing the dialogue. I wasn't sure how brutal I wanted the dialogue about Black Lives Matter to be, but I once heard kids a group of kids at school talk about it like they do in the screenplay, so I decided to keep it as brutal as it really was. Writing the dialogue for the phone call was interesting because I wanted them to talk about whatever came into their head, so I just wrote down whatever came into my head.
I needed to add different aspects into the movie that I could contextualize into showing a bigger problem. So I decided I wanted the main character to be using social media and to be looking at all of the likes that other people were getting on Instagram. I wanted to show the process of posting a selfie on social media how sad I think it can be. Social media usually makes people less social. I wanted to show this need by kids to have lots of likes on social media. I also wanted to show how groupthink affects so many young kids, so I showed him interacting with a group of kids that he hangs out with at school. I based the two school scenes off of things that I actually saw in school.

Art
When filming this movie, I really wanted to work on lighting and making the movie look as good as possible. I knew the cinematography wasn't going to be anything special because I wanted it to be mostly static shots to show the loneliness of the main character. I filmed most of the scenes at night so I could control the light. I have one LED light that I used for some of the shots. It's got the normal white light that comes out of it and I also have a orange filter that I can put on it to give it more of a natural look to it. The only difficult things for filming were getting my house quiet while I was filming the scene in the basement. I had to film that scene with my brother while my parents were out of the house. I filmed the movie on a GH4 camera. I edited it on Final Cut Pro X. At first I did struggle a little with how I wanted to edit the movie. I wasn't sure if I wanted to have a more linear story or start with the action and cut back to flashbacks. I chose to start with action and cut back to flashbacks.

Social Studies
For social studies I analyzed my screenplay/movie. I started off by talking about the general information that I researched about depression, the effects of social media, and groupthink. I explained each of these topics and why I wanted to use them in my movie.
Then I talked about every scene in the screenplay. I explained why I did certain shots the way I did and why the character did what he did and felt what he felt. I explained what certain shots were supposed to portray.
I enjoyed writing this analysis because I got to explain the meaning of my shots, and talk about what shots worked and what didn't.
