My main goal of this project was to create an entertaining, dramatic, and nonsensical screenplay and short film about a kidnapping, while also paying homage to an original short film named "John Rudy" that my brother and I made for another class.
English
The original movie that my brother and I made was called "John Rudy." It was about what appears to be two friends talking in one of their houses. The one character named John wants to take the other character named Koby to a park named "John Rudy" because he finds out that Koby has never been there. They decide to go to John Rudy park the next day. John was really just taking Koby there so he could abduct him and beat him up.
I decided for my sequel, "John Rudy II: A Walk in the Park," I wanted Koby to be luring someone to John Rudy park himself. Once they get there Koby opens the trunk and John from the first "John Rudy" comes out of it. The rest is history.
I didn't really struggle writing the screenplay. I pretty much knew exactly where I wanted to take the movie.
I used a website named Celtx to write my screenplay. It was my first time using it and it worked like a charm.

Art
I filmed the movie outside of school around my neighborhood, in my car, and at some train tracks. I filmed it on a GH4. I edited the movie on iMovie. I filmed on four different days.
For this film I tried to work on having longer, moving shots. I also tried to work on focusing the camera effectively and creatively. You can see this in the shot where we get out of the car. We started inside the car and moved the camera out of the window and continued to move back and around to the front of the car as we got out of the car. You can also see this in the shot where the character known as "Dude" walks over to the train tracks. It starts far away at a low angle and shows both characters. As Dude walks towards the train tracks he becomes in focus and the camera moves up and tilts left with him so you can see his surroundings, which are out of focus. In the scene where Koby tells him "It's time to meet him," the camera racks from Dude's view to Koby's view. The scene where John comes out of the trunk is also all one moving take.
The most stressful part of filming this movie was filming scenes inside a moving car, while also acting out scenes and all without any kind of car mount. We used duck tape to keep the camera from sliding off the dash. My older brother also had to hang out of the window while we were slowly driving for some shots. Another part that made filming this awful was we had to keep the windows up so the sound would be good, and my car's air conditioner doesn't work. We were filming during very hot days so this was not fun.

Social Studies
For the social studies aspect I chose to create a Weebly page about kidnapping in Africa. I gave general information about the topic, I talked about the causes and effects, I talked about specific cases, and I talked about what's being done about it. I tried to connect things I learned from researching this to my movie.
Creating the Weebly was a lot of work. I did a lot of research but only ended up using a small amount of it. There wasn't a whole lot of good information online about kidnapping there because there aren't a lot of good solid records/statistics and in some countries not much is being done to stop the kidnappings.
