My Idea
My third project all stemmed from a song I found on gale data base. The song was from an African singer who was once a war child. He wrote based off his experiences in the song. The moment I heard it, I had a vision and then I had a project. I would create a dance PSA that had to do with bringing awareness to war children, but it wasn't that simple.
Research I went on gale data base and found tons of research on war children or child soldiers. I needed a foundation on the topic. I didn't know much about war children. This helped me understand how big the problem is. This research was one of the few things that drove the choreography in the dance.

Understanding To have a better understanding of what children in war go through, I read "A Long Way Gone", watched "The Kite Runner", and watched a documentary on war children. I wanted to understand the child's perspective. I wanted to create not just from research, but the things the children were feeling I wanted to understand that.

Emotionally Drained
This was one of my hardest projects for the simple fact that it is a really heavy topic. The things I was reading about were intense. I couldn't believe some of the things the children had to go through. I often had to take breaks because I just couldn't take in any more information. It emotionally drained me to constantly work on this project.
The Dance
The dance above was choreographed by me. I reached out to some fellow dancers asking for help. I knew I wanted multiple people in this video. After getting a handful of dancers to agree to help, I recorded myself doing the different parts of the dance and shared it with them. This was to allow them to learn it on their own time. We didn't have to waste time together learning choreography. Then we picked days to film. The costumes, location, and choreography all have meaning behind it. Below you will find the reasoning for my dance.
