LIFE ISN'T ABOUT FINDING YOURSELF. IT'S ABOUT CREATING YOURSELF.
- George Bernard Shaw
APOLLO has taught me a lot about being who I am, and who I always was meant to be. I would always tell people, "I need to find myself. I need to figure out who I am," and this quote from George Bernard Shaw depicts exactly what APOLLO has taught me. I have had the blessing to work alongside many intelligent, creative, fun, and driven students, and three teachers who are perfect mentors for us. APOLLO is not just about being artistic; it is about using your imagination; whatever that definition may be to you, and running with it. We are able to bounce ideas off of each other, and be open. APOLLO also stands for keeping your eye on the prize. We are not just here to have fun. We are here to study the things we are most passionate about, and learn the most we can. It is a great opportunity to be apart of a program that is so fitted to us and our wants/needs. APOLLO teaches us the skills to stay focused, be responsible/independent, and bring our creative side out. No brick and mortar class has ever taught me as much as APOLLO has, even in the two short months of being apart of it.
This is my journey through APOLLO. I started out knowing I wanted to make products through autism. I do an internship with the high school autistic support class, and have been working with them for over a year. This is where I started, but my first project took a totally different turn. I started with education. Malala is an amazing, young advocate for education, and I just so happened to pick up her book in the summer. I decided that maybe I should start there. After that, I decided to incorporate my internship since I had been about a month or two in. This project also took a different turn than I thought it would, but both projects turned out well. I am excited to see where my next two projects take me, and the things I will learn through them. This is my APOLLO journey, one of the best journeys of my school career.
