Brazilian Football Culture
Football is something in Brazil that evolved into a huge passion for Brazilians. They enjoy and love the sport so much they started to refer to their country as the country of football. Football although is not exactly what we in the U.S. think of when Brazilians think of it. Football to us is throwing and catching a leather brown ball and hitting the person hard who has it trying to run it in an end zone. But in Brazil, they think of a polyester or cotton ball that you kick, do tricks with and run around fighting to shoot the ball into the opponents net.
Over 10,000 Brazilians play professionally around the world, showing how much Football has a major effect on the Brazilian culture. It is the sport you sit down with your family and watch on the Television or go see in person for lifetime memories. Football in Brazil is what brings families and friends, even strangers together. If you were to walk down the streets of Brazil young kids and adults will be seen playing football on the streets and indoor Football fields. Seeing people playing Football in Brazil is like seeing people in the U.S. on their phones.
The U.S. has the Super Bowl that brings people together for parties and enjoyment to people rooting their team on. Although the World Cup draws Brazilians together by people skipping work to see Brazil play, or employers set up places for employees to watch. It is the biggest time of the year when that fourth year hits and the World Cup is in action. The General Elections are held in the same year as the World Cup. So political parties try to take advantage of the excitement and all the feelings people are getting created by the World Cup and bring it into politics. A lot of the time former Brazilian footballers are elected to legislative positions.
The country’s size and the lack of fast transportation makes an important aspect of football in Brazil for the Brazilian State Championships. During the early development of the game in Brazil national competitions, such as the competition centered on state tournaments and inter-state competitions like the Torneio Rio-São Paulo, was what was done in order for competition in the game. But now days there is a growing tendency of the importance of such championships as continental and national competitions and have grown in the early 1990s, solving the issue in order to add competition along with the love and fun of the game.
This is what Football and Brazilian culture looks like when combined in an Art perspective to me. I thought since Football is part of Brazilian culture threw out the country it would be fitting to draw and Football and there country with their flag and colors in the mix.
