In this project, I wanted to explore the dichotomy of good vs. evil. It's an eternal struggle that has existed since the beginning of time and is littered within literature. Since I love movies, naturally, I chose the Christopher Nolan classic “The Dark Knight.” I’m a big Christopher Nolan fan and I felt like this film had exactly what I needed for my project. The protagonist, Batman, has the ultimate antagonist, The Joker. Both of these characters instigate conflict strictly due to their opposing moral positions. The character relationships and story structure allowed me to look at the good vs. evil dynamic through the lens of “The Dark Knight.”

PART 2
The second part of my project consisted of paintings. I took the the symbols from my poems and painted them in a style I thought reflective of the tone of the poem.
This painting goes with "The Scale" poem. I chose this style because I wanted to show the messiness of Batman's morality as well as the city of Gotham. Also, even though Batman tows that line of moral goodness, he still airs on the side of justice. To represent that, I made one side of the scale slightly higher than the other. |
