Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald is often viewed as the woman who held F. Scott Fitzgerald back. Without her, some claim that Scott would have been more successful. Would have less weight on his shoulders instead of the burden that was Zelda. Through my project, I attempted to prove the falsity of this statement and learn more about Zelda.

Social StudiesI created metrics for the social studies portion of my project. Unfortunately, I never fully finished them but these are representations of my progress. Examining Zelda's life only further solidifies her identity as a person who cannot be 'figured out' but with the metrics, my hope was to show points of connection between different areas of her life. To make sense of the senseless.

I deconstructed tea bags, in honor of a painting of Zelda's named "Mad Hatter". The purpose of this was to show how Scott (the teabag) tried to overshadow Zelda (the tea) throughout her life, yet in this instance, Zelda gets to have ownership of her art.
Inside the tea bags are cut up letters from Scott's books. Scott often plagiarized Zelda's work and would insert excerpts of her work into his own pieces. |

For this portion of my project, along with the research I conducted, I composed three letters from Zelda's perspective to Scott. I chose three points in their relationship and each letter is representative of what I felt encapsulated that time period best. I was hesitant to misrepresent Zelda and tried to refrain from putting words in her mouth. The letters were particularly difficult because of who Zelda was and who she continues to be. A mystery. Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald never failed to be confusing and it is this that made getting in her head so difficult. Regardless of my hesitation, the letters were written.
