From Screen to Plate
Our project was based on the Disney classic, Aladdin. We wanted to take the movie and illustrate the social classes on a culinary level. With each social class, there is a dish or food item associated with it. We chose to cook because food is an important part of any culture and also more of an interactive experience. Instead of just reading or hearing about it, you’re doing it.
The first dish, falafel, is representative of the lower class. This dish is more for the commoner. It’s easy to make and extremely cheap. It’s also a street food, making it an ideal dish for mobile eating. The falafel comes with a cool and herby dipping sauce called tarator sauce alongside drops of sriracha for the ones who desire spice.
The second dish, chicken curry over basmati rice, is representative of the higher class. This dish consist of multiple layers. There are simply more ingredients and many of which are higher quality. The dish also takes a long time to cook so it isn’t ideal for someone in a hurry or very hungry. This dish also takes a longer time to eat that requires you to sit down and eat, which is more ideal for the higher class and even the royalty.
