Project One:
My first project included my passion for sustainability. I decided to create clothing that is both sustainable and stylish. I know in order for sustainable fashion to be successful it has to be something trendy that people want to participate in. I started with sketches, then moved to the collection of used clothes, cut into patches and construction.
Process:
The correlation between peace and sustainability:
I researched sustainability in countries throughout the world. Throughout my research I put together a theory that sustainability and peace have an interesting relationship. Countries that have had less wars in the past 100 years are more sustainable. To display this theory I created a map. This map was created out of the fabrics I used when creating my skirts. I included the top 20 most sustainable countries and the least 10 sustainable countries according to robocosam.com
Rankings:
I chose these rankings by researching the number of wars each country on the list has been involved in the past 100 years. I also included how that country was ranked. To the left is a chart that I created.
My Experience:
This project was a lot of fun for me. Not only did I learn a lot about construction of fabrics but I learned a lot about my artistic process. I have a certain style when it comes to making clothing. I like to take what is trendy and put a different twist on it. Fashion must be something wearable. Fashion is an art but art is not always fashion. Something could be a beautiful garment but if it is not something that is wearable and worn then it is simply art. Fashion is our culture.
