Up above is a slideshow of the 8 journals I wrote based on the Syrian War. The journals are in the perspective of a teenage boy names Omar who writes about the war itself and about his personal life/struggles during the war. Halfway through, the perspective changes to a older man, named Malek. Malek continues with his own story and to finish it off, the last entry goes back to Omar and what he has been feeling after losing his journal.
Northern Storm Brigade
The Northern Storm Brigade is one of the many rebel groups that are fighting in the Syrian War. This group controls an important border crossing between Syria and Turkey and they were formed in 2011 in the town of Azaz. Before the war, they group was known as smugglers and were responsible for kidnapping 11 Lebanese men in 2012 and 2013. Only 9 of the men were freed on October 19th, 2013. Even before the war started, Syrians would complain about the high unemployment, widespread corruption, the lack of political freedom, and the state repression under President Assad. As of 2015, they were only 500 people apart of the Northern Storm Brigade. Throughout the years, The war has lasted so long because it eventually became a battle between the people against and for President Assad. The rebel group has gotten finical, political, and military support from the United States, Russia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia which contributed to the increasing and lasting of the battle.
Coat of Arms
For art and history, I combined the two and created a coat of arms. The coat of arms have the colors and shapes that symbolize the Northern Storm Brigade and Syria. To create this coat of arms, I had to put the shapes together separately and then connect them to make it look like a whole instead of separate pieces. For the history part, I wrote paragraphs on the side of the coat of arms to explain why I used the shapes and colors I did into my coat of arms.
