Introduction
My name is Athena (yes the goddess of wisdom). My projects are all intended to be a reflection of my interests and passions in life. I have a passion for wildlife, art, reading, and helping others (including animals). I want everyone to see that in Apollo, and in life, the possibilities are endless. Your imagination can take you really far sometimes, as long as you let it.
This project showed my passion for reading. It's a pop-up book of research-based haiku poetry. Every poem was written by me, and every page has a pop-up that represents the authors life story or what they write about. The Japanese authors chosen were all from different Japanese time periods, and they all had very different interests, life stories, or writing styles. Everything in this book was handmade by me.
This project showed my passion for wildlife, specifically Herpetology which is the study of herptiles, also known as amphibians and reptiles. For this project, I focused on the evolution of herptiles, and also human evolution. I made a research book that included Amazonian myths and legends, human evolution, herptile evolution, amphibian anatomy, and reptile anatomy. I also made a life-sized green salamander.
This project showed my passion for art and reading. For this project, I wrote a children's book based on an African fable about zebras and how they got their stripes. The pictures were inspired by Eric Carle's illustrations in his books. The cover had a 3D mask on it made of paper mache.
This project showed my passion for art and equality. I worked with my friend Bree, and we researched women's rights in the Middle East and Asia. We wrote a sonnet about how women in these places feel, and we made a hijab and found patches for it that represented women's feelings and their rights in the Middle East. We also made a belly cast of a pregnant woman's stomach and made a collage on top of it representing women in Asia.
