When discussing science and religion, many people believe them to be on opposite ends; two different worlds. Being a Christian who loves science, I have a different view, believing they really go hand in hand. The Bible tells us that God created everything, even wisdom itself, so science is also his creation. Science is an explanation of the things He has created, not His enemy. Going along with this, Genesis 1:14 states, "And God said, "Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years." We know that God created the stars and knows them all by name, not to mention that he uses them to mark sacred times as it says in Genesis 1:14. The life of his son, Jesus Christ, is the most sacred thing we know and so it only made sense to me that it must be written in the stars. This was the inspiration for my project.

EnglishI started out the English portion of this project by reading The Witness of the Stars by E.W. Bullinger. This book explained how the constellations as we know them originally had Hebrew names, and these names tell the story of salvation. It was extremely interesting and was the inspiration for my entire project. As I researched how this information proved that the constellations show God's existence, my English teacher, Mr. Ward, asked me to seek out the other side's opinion by watching the documentary "Zeitgeist". This documentary tried to disprove Jesus and Christianity, using the same facts I was using to prove the opposite. Knowing that wasn't true, I set out to disprove this documentary and researched the facts used in this documentary. I ended up finding that many of their facts were in fact made up, and created a document disproving some of their claims.

ArtAs I researched astronomy and its correlation to my faith, I first looked at the Bible verses which mention stars. To my surprise there was a much larger amount than what I had imagined. A passage that had stuck out to me was Revelation 12:1-6. These verses describe John's vision on Patmos where he looks up at the sky and sees a woman and a dragon. I took this verse as John looking at the constellations Virgo and Draco. I wanted to draw this vision, so I decided to draw a portrait of John looking at the night sky, and the reflection of Draco and Virgo in his eyes. I am overall pretty satisfied with the product but I think it could have turned out better and I will most likely be redoing it in the future.

HistoryRelating astronomy within the context of the Bible to American history was quite the struggle. After multiple meeting with Mr. Wimmer though, we came across the topic of Heaven's Gate Cult. This cult based its belies off of their interpretation of the Bible, and also used the stars as a sign, all killing themselves when the Hale-Bopp comet passed. As I learned more and more about the strange practices of this cult, I couldn't help but wonder how they could be lead to believe these things from the Bible. I decided to find out and wrote an essay discussing a handful of their beliefs, their biblical evidence for those beliefs, and then explained why their interpretation was incorrect.
