For project 1 I wanted to focus on mental illness. I studied symptoms of different illnesses and how a doctor would diagnos someone with an illness. My whole project was based on the story, "The Yellow Wallpaper." I will talk more about this story below...
English
"The Yellow Wallpaper"
For English I read the story "The Yellow Wallpaper." In the beginning of the story, the main character's husband sends her away to a mansion after she gives birth to her first child. She stays in a room with yellow wallpaper and she isn't allowed to leave. Throughout the story, she shows many signs of post partum depression but her husband just thinks she is crazy. Toward the end of the story, she starts to see girls trapped in the wallpaper. She rips the wallpaper off to let the girls free but they are still there. What she was really seeing was her own shadow on the wall and it moved as the sun moved. Being alone, stuck in a room and going through depression untreated caused her to go crazy. After I read the story, I wrote six letters to the main character from the husbands perspective. He wrote the letters to her while she was gone.

History
Psychiatric Assessment Form and Medical Glossary
For History I filled out a psychiatric assessment form. I used all of the research I did on mental illnesses to fill this out. I did research on symptoms and treatments for post partum depression. After I did as much research as possible, I used it to connect with the story. I listed on the assessment form all of the symptoms that the main character in the story showed and other details I found on her. I also made up what I thought she might have been through earlier in her life. After I filled out all of the necessary information, I decided what treatment I was going to give her. The second part to my history project was a medical glossary. I made a glossary for all of the medical terms that I didn't know.

Art
Room Design
For Art I designed a whole new room for the main character in the story "The Yellow Wallpaper." In the story she mentioned different parts and features of the house that she did and didn't like. I used everything that she mentioned to decide what to add and take away from her room. I added a greenhouse and garden that she could get to right from her bedroom, I added plants all over her room and white furniture and I added a baby room that is connected to hers. There was reasoning behind all of the objects and colors. Even though it doesn't look the way that an ordinary house would, I made every wall a different color because each color has a different meaning. Obove or below the pictures are quotes that state what she likes.
