Here is my interpretation and spinoff of Edward Hopper's painting Nighthawks. As a person who is very intrigued by music, I really wanted to do a project about the eighties somehow. I love the culture: the teased hair, neon colors, and the funky tunes. I had spent the first week comparing Madonna, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, and Cyndi Lauper to each other. I wanted to make my own interpretation of how they may have interacted. The four had many hits all around the same time, competing against one another.
After I successfully did that, I became stuck. I spoke to our English teacher who suggested that I look into Hopper's painting. Once I did, everything fell into place! I began gathering photos of women to get the right position for their figures. I sketched them all out and I used photos of them rocking out to get reference for their outfits, to make everything authentic. I began to sketch out the scene and as I was nearly finished, I became very ill and was out for a week. Needless to say, I came back and tried my best to finish strong.
To go along with the drawing, I typed up a piece detailing what I sketched and why I decided to sketch them the way that I did.
